About the exhibition

“Just when you think you understand the game, the game changes”

From its ghetto New York roots crafting new instruments and musical forms, to educating and promoting consciousness for a voiceless underclass, to filling stadiums worldwide and rampant commercialism, this unique musical genre has repeatedly written its own rules and story.

The Heroes of Hip Hop exhibition celebrates the contributions from a handful of the characters who have added meaningful chapters to that story. The first in what we hope will become a series, this exhibition does not even attempt to be an exhaustive list.

As a genre of music historically defined by its constant evolution, it identifies what was unique and different about 12 contributors from those that had gone before them, and tries to distill what made them special and notable.

Uniquely illustrated by emerging art talent selected from across the globe, into some choice contemporary portraits you can own and hang in your respective cribs, the exhibition offers a short historical snapshot to hip hop and rap fans everywhere.

So why not spend 5 minutes of your day giving a little respect to some true players of the hip hop game.
