Dizzy Gillespie And the damaged horn

From Buy this print £100.00

The great bebop bandleader Dizzy Gillespie created volleys of notes that were so playful and complicated, his contemporaries didn’t even bother trying to copy him.

One day in 1953 somebody fell on his trumpet accidentally and bent it while it was standing unattended.

Dizzy played it, liked it – because he could now hear his own playing more clearly – and after that he had his horns specially made that way.
